More Things of Importance
Oct. 11th, 2006 04:30 pmKacey here.
These are actually the same things of importance. The most important thing being the matter of my back legs and their current confusion over acceptable behavior. My person is still keeping me in various crates most of the time. Why, when she went away last weekend she even sent me over to my auntiefriend to stay in a crate there instead of spending most of my time patrolling the yard in joyful absence of That Beagle, who thinks it's actually his yard.
I might actually miss him when he's not there, but all the same it's nice to have the place to myself, or to share it with only Jean-Luc. But this time Jean-Luc kept the yard safe all by himself--and dare I say he's not really cut out for that responsibility--and I stayed next door in a crate. With bones.
(In a related note, my person recently discovered that Jean-Luc's head is not symmetrical in the wake of his babypuppy injury. She was apparently fooled all this time because one side has lots more white than the other. I could have told her, but she never thought to ask.)
However, in the wake of all this crating I have discovered that my legs are listening a tiny bit better. This is a trend to be encouraged. I hope to report further improvement in the coming days. I hope also to report the end of all this crate time, but my person doesn't seem to be making any changes as far as that's concerned.
But I do get all the best bones. No question about it. I note she's not giving me knuckle bones since the regrettable incident of bone-face those many years ago, but perhaps that's just as well.
In another Thing of Importance, my person is still excited about the release of the new HELIX magazine. Just today I caught her posting this blatant self-promotion:
==========
And wahoo! HELIX is still fresh brand-spankin' new for this quarter, and the fiction is there for the reading--we use a storyteller bowl model, in which--if you liked the fiction and hope to see more from the magazine--we hope you'll donate. We take paying the authors very seriously, and I know that if the day comes when we can't pay them at least a decent if modest amount at the end of the quarter, we'll reevaluate our plans for the future. That's what this is all about, after all--creating a showcase for work that's being rejected not on merit but on narrowing vision. If it's not what people want, then...so be it.
In the meantime, however, I am compelled to mention, blushing prettily and fanning my face, that FORWARD is eligible for Nebula recommendations (as are all the stories in HELIX).
The url is www.helixsf.com. If you read it and like it, tell a friend...word of mouth is the very best recommendation any of us can have.

Well, what's a dog to do. I'm sure she's thinking of buying more bones, and wants to be sure that's possible.
